Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has postponed a planned demonstration scheduled for July 3, 2026, outside the Turkish Embassy in Kampala, following consultations with its leadership.
A delegation led by Aine Kaguta Godfrey Sodo has held discussions with the Turkish Ambassador in Uganda aimed at easing tensions and pursuing a diplomatic resolution following recent political developments involving planned public demonstrations.
According to Sodo Kaguta, the meeting was conducted after receiving guidance from Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, with Ambassador Adonia Ayebare also participating in the engagement.
Sodo said the discussions were constructive and focused on finding an amicable resolution through continued diplomatic engagement rather than public protest.
“A constructive dialogue and an amicable resolution is being pursued. I request your indulgence for two weeks to present a comprehensive report,” Sodo stated.
The decision was made after guidance and consultation with PLU Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba according to Kabanda.
Kabanda said the postponement is intended to allow ongoing peace facilitation efforts to conclude and for updates to be reported.
“Following guidance and consultation with our Chairman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the PLU demonstration planned at the Turkish Embassy tomorrow 3rd July, 2026 has been postponed. This is to allow the facilitators of peace talks to conclude and report to our Chairman,” Kabanda stated.
He added that the decision was taken in line with efforts to prioritize dialogue and ongoing peace-related engagements.
Patriotic League of Uganda, a political pressure group led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has in recent months been active in public mobilization and political messaging across various platforms.
No official statement was issued by the Turkish Embassy in Kampala regarding the planned demonstration or its postponement.
Further communication on a revised date or alternative course of action is expected from PLU leadership in due course.
