Police Recover Over 80 Suspected Stolen Boda Bodas in Kampala

KAMPALA, Uganda

Kampala Metropolitan Police have recovered more than 80 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen from different parts of the country during an intelligence-led operation conducted in Kasubi, Kampala.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the motorcycles are believed to have been stolen from the districts of Masaka and Hoima before being transported to Kampala, where they were reportedly being kept.

The motorbikes were seized on Tuesday evening recovery following an operation by security agencies based on intelligence information pointing at Mukozi Day and Night Parking in Kasubi, a suburb of Kampala where the motorcycles were allegedly being stored.

Authorities say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to crack down on motorcycle theft, a crime that has affected riders, transport operators, and motorcycle owners across Uganda.

Police have since launched a verification exercise to establish the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles.

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has joined the process by examining registration records and ownership documents to determine whether the motorcycles were legally acquired or stolen.

Officials say the exercise will help identify genuine owners and support investigations into possible criminal networks involved in vehicle theft and trafficking.

Motorcycle theft remains a major challenge in Uganda, particularly in urban centres and trading towns where motorcycles are widely used for transport and business.

Security agencies have in recent years intensified operations against suspected theft syndicates that steal motorcycles and alter registration details before selling them to unsuspecting buyers.

Police have urged members of the public whose motorcycles were recently stolen to cooperate with investigators and provide ownership documents that may assist in the identification process.
