Dancers insult Museveni at Amama Mbabazi marriage anniversary

Special Forces Command arrested eight dancers of the Crane Performers, a cultural entertainment group for allegedly insulting President Yoweri Museveni as he delivered his speech at the 50th marriage anniversary of his former prime minister Amama Mbabazi. 

Mbabazi and Jacqueline Mbabazi hosted president Museveni and other dignitaries at the Serena Hotel to commemorate their 50th marriage anniversary on Saturday. 

According to reports, while Museveni was delivering his speech, some members of the Crane Performers group shouted at the president in Runyankole for giving an exceptionally long speech. 

They were quoted to have said, “Rutabandana waturusya rugahamuzindaro”, which loosely translates as “you’re over speaking, we’re tired, get off the microphone.”

Following the shocking incident, security immediately sorrounded the dance group members. 

They were identified as Tonny Okello, Paul Ruduli, Simon Bebwa, Walter Oleng, David Muvunyi and Edward Tugume and taken to Central Police Station,  Kampala to record statements. 

The suspects were also profiled by police forensics directorate and  charged with insulting the person of the president.
