More than10 people have been killed in Kasese district after their homes were swept by mudslides.
The landslides were triggered by heavy rainfall that has been pounding the area for several days.
According to NTV Uganda, Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner in-Charge of Bukonzo County East, Lt. Maate Magwara, says the situation in the district is dire.
Heavy rains have caused disruptions and loss of life across the world in the recent days. Hundreds of lives have been lost to flooding in Kenya and Tanzania. The Government of Kenya is destroying houses in riparian areas across the country.
In Tanzania, the cyclone Hidaya swept across the coastline, extending to the Kenyan county of Mombasa.
While addressing the media in Kampala, the Spokesperson of the National Metrological Authority, Lillian Nkwenge announced that for the next 10 days the country would receive heavy rains in Kigezi region, Acholi, and North Eastern.
Speaking about the same matter, State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Lillian Aber said the government was ready to handle any consequences of this heavy downpour. “In the event that the ministry cannot handle, the government has other support mechanisms through other ministries and partners like the Red Cross…”
Kasese district has always suffered the menace of floods in the month of May, that always leads to loss of lives and destruction of property.
