Bobi Wine Condemns Shutdown of Nation Media Group

KAMPALA

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has condemned the reported shutdown of Nation Media Group Uganda’s media outlets, describing the move as an attack on independent journalism and freedom of expression.

In a statement posted on his official X account, Bobi Wine alleged that Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, acting with the approval of President Yoweri Museveni, had ordered the closure of NTV Uganda, Daily Monitor, Dembe FM, and Spark TV.

“Museveni’s criminal son, acting with his father’s full approval, has moved to silence Uganda’s remaining independent voices by shutting down NTV Uganda, Daily Monitor, Dembe FM, and Spark TV,” Bobi Wine wrote.

He further claimed that Uganda was increasingly operating under military rule and argued that the closure of the media houses reflected growing repression.

“This is the harsh reality we now face, a country under open military rule, where fear replaces law and force replaces accountability,” he added.

Bobi Wine also expressed confidence that press freedom and democratic governance would ultimately prevail, stating that history has shown that governments accused of suppressing dissent eventually face accountability.

His remarks came after reports that security personnel had surrounded the Nation Media Group premises in Kampala and that some of the company’s broadcast outlets had been forced off air.

The claims regarding the motives behind the reported shutdown remain his opinion and have not been independently verified.
